Donald Phillips

October 18, 1928 — September 27, 2009

Donald G. Phillips, 80, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Hickory Creek at New Castle following a brief illness. He was born October 18, 1928 in Conesville, Ohio to the late John Rhenard and Thelma (Miller) Phillips.

Donald had been employed by Sears for 28 years, Myers Furniture for 10 years, and had been a park ranger at Memorial Park. He led a very active church life, helping to build Park Place Free Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, song leader, and treasurer. Donald was currently a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, serving with Best Years Fellowship (BYF) and as a Sunday school teacher. Donald was a member of the Breakfast Optimists and loved working in his yard and garden, and was known for his sweet corn.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Dorothy (Brenneman) Phillips of New Castle; two sons: Steven (wife: Pam) Phillips of New Castle and David (wife: Beverly) Phillips of Springport; his daughter: Bethany Phillips of New Castle; his brother: John W. Phillips of Coshocton, OH; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great grandchild, Mara Jackson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church with Reverend Bob Pavey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 29 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
