Donald Swartz, 94, formerly of Knightstown and Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living in New Palestine. He was born August 30, 1925 in Anderson, IN, the son of William “Oran” and Marie (Benzenbower) Swartz.
Don and his wife, Frances had owned Rody’s and the Patio Shoppe in Knightstown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII and had been a member of the Knightstown American Legion for 59 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Greenfield. Don enjoyed NASCAR auto racing and Indiana Pacers Basketball.
He is survived by a sister, Dianne (Tim) Augustinovicz of Anderson, IN; a niece and two nephews, Gregory (Susan) Augustinovicz, Audrey Augustinovicz and Jeffrey (Julie) Augustinovicz; son: Jerry Swartz of Greenfield, IN and his daughter: Abby Lu (Nikhil) Jelaji of Cincinnati, OH; son: Gary (Vicki) Swartz of Huntsville, AL and their children: Brandi (Jonathan) Shoemaker of Birmingham, AL, Mindi (Jeffrey) Martin of Shreveport, LA and Dustin Swartz of Ft. Worth, TX; six great-grandchildren, Presley and Blaine Shoemaker, Brooke, Logan and Payton Martin and Margot Jelaji; several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Moreland) Swartz on July 20, 2013.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Reverend Danny Tompkins officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion Post #152. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 PM until time of service. The family requests that those attending please wear masks.
