Donald R. Viars, 85, of New Castle passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. He was born July 27, 1930 in Soldier, Kentucky a son of the late Jake and Nora (Patton) Viars.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he retired from the Coca-Cola Company after many years of service. He was currently doing contract mail delivery for the U.S. Postal Service, and had done so for several years. Donald was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include one son, Kevin L. Viars (domestic partner, Dusty White) of Kissimmee, Florida; two brothers, Allie “Bud” Viars and George “Omer” (wife, Betty) Viars of New Castle; nieces & nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law; special friend, Ruby Orr of New Castle; brother-in-law, Gary (wife, Sandy) Clark of London, OH, sisters-in-law, Denzel Dicken of New Castle, Lou Neal of New Castle, Kathy (husband, James) Woodard of Tulsa, OK, and Sharon (husband, John) Rodenmayer of Reynoldsburg, OH; his dog, Choi and a host of friends within the community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Edith Viars in 2004; and a sister, Maude Christine Duvall.
Services will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Private burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, Legion Hill at the convenience of the family.
