Donnie C. Hoots, 71, of New Castle, took his first breath in Heaven on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at St Vincent Hospital surrounded by his wife and family. He was born in New Castle on July 12, 1953, to the late Charles and Golda (Nation) Hoots.
A 1973 graduate of Chrysler High School, Donnie graduated from IUPUI with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for many years at Fujitsu Ten in Rushville, where he was in Management as Director of Quality. After retirement, he earned a degree in Radiologic Technology.
A beloved husband, dad, papaw and brother, Donnie always put others first and was an example of showing his love through service to others, his family, his church and his community. He made a positive impact on the lives of everyone he met.
His life was dedicated to God and his family. For the past 47 years Donnie was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle. He served on the church board, Sunday School teacher, bus driver, and was a member of the J.O.Y. Club. He also received the Distinguished Service Award for 2024.
He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, living in the country, and was an expert handyman. He could and would repair or remodel anything. He and his wife, Lisa, fostered children for several years, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in June 2024. At their celebration, he shared their love story openly to 140 guests, showing his love and appreciation for her. He loved working at the Mooreland Area Food Pantry with his mother-in-law, Pat Hicks. He spent many days there doing whatever was needed.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Lisa Hoots of New Castle; four daughters, whom he referred to all of them as Sugar, Courtenay (Brian) Pierce of Lewisville, Cassie (Will) Hart of Denver, CO, Kylee (Travis) Hays of Ft. Wayne, and Katherine Hoots (fiancé, Todd Harding) of New Castle; a son, Lee Hoots of Richlands, NC; grandchildren, Cainan Pierce, Simon (Madi) Pierce, Abe Pierce, Malachi Pierce, Olive Hart, Eliza Hart, June Hays, and Tilly Hays; brothers, Jerry (Sandy) Hoots of New Castle and Jeff (Melissa) Nation of Middletown; his mother in law, Pat Hicks of Mooreland; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Homer Hicks.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 27, 2025, at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Ryan Farmer and Jimmy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
