Donnie V. Stephens, 72, of Carthage, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born May 5, 1939 in Lewis County, Kentucky the son of the late Ollie and Faithy (Gilliam) Stephens.
Donnie retired from Hunt Paving following 31 years of service and was a member of the Indiana Laborers Union Local #120. He loved playing music and could play any instrument but particularly enjoyed banjo and guitar Bluegrass style. He was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed fishing, poker and gambling, and especially enjoyed playing cards with his family every Friday night. Donnie loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by six children: Robert Stephens of Carthage; Tim (wife: Stacey) Stephens of Carthage; Chuck (wife: Heather) Stephens of Carthage; Teresa (husband: Dan) Cullison of Carthage; Dawn (husband: Nathan) Sanders of Carthage; Kimberly (husband: Doug) Jett of Shelbyville; brother: Bob (wife:Lavon) Stephens of Knightstown; sisters: Violet Stacey of Knightstown and Lura Stephens of Knightstown; twenty grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Peggy Ann Stephens; two granddaughters; a grandson; brothers: Junior and Coy Stephens; and sister: Odelene Enix.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Paul Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage.
