Doris D. Salyers, age 90, of Anderson, formerly of Henry County, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at Community Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness. She was born January 13, 1919 in Pound, Virginia to the late Mitchell C. and Peggy (Addington) Kilgore.
Doris was a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God in New Castle. She enjoyed crafts, making dolls, had a publication with her dolls and was known at the “Doll Ladyâ€. She was formerly employed at RCA and Regency Radio in Indianapolis but was a homemaker most of her life. She made many friends over the past several years especially at the Wal-Mart and Goodwill stores in Anderson.
Survivors include two daughters: Gerri (husband: Richard) Walda of Anderson and Billie Jean Dickens of CO; siblings: Elizabeth Levenitt of AL, Bob Kilgore of Louisville, KY, Ruby Mullins of IL, Violet (husband: Bob) Snedigar of New Castle; grandchildren: David (wife: Patty) Walda of Indianapolis, Gene (wife: Nancy) Walda of Middletown, Dale (wife: Tossy) Walda of Pendleton; three additional grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Albert Salyers; siblings: Clarence Kilgore, Harold Kilgore, Buster Kilgore, Preston Kilgore, Shirley Booher and Sonny Kilgore.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at South Memorial Drive Church of God in New Castle with Reverend Harold Goodpastor officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 9-11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
