Doris B. Steward, 78, of Carthage, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Kindred Healthcare in Greenfield. She was born October 3, 1938 in Jabez, KY, a daughter of the late Eddie and Lola (Frye) Roy.
A 1958 graduate of Wilkinson High School, and a homemaker most of her life, Doris was an avid flower gardener, and entered her flowers in many 4-H competitions, which yielded her several championship ribbons. Also, when she was younger, she wrote as a columnist for the Rushville Republican, Knightstown Banner, and the Carthage Chatter newspapers.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Allen Steward of Carthage, Mark Steward of Pittsboro, and Kent (Tamera) Steward of Pittsboro; a granddaughter, Samantha Steward of California; a great granddaughter, Danica Steward of California. Also, three sisters, Darlus Johnson of Anderson, Barbara Norfleet of Carthage, and Kay (Floyd) Steward of Anderson; three brothers, Gary (Jean) Roy of Knightstown, Roger (Patty) Roy of New Castle, and Ronnie Roy of California; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sue Moore, and two brothers, Phillip and James Roy.
Visitation will be from 11: 00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor George Maloyed and Doris’ family officiating.
