Dorothy M. Masengale, age 103, of New Castle passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. She was born March 21, 1911 in Wayne County, Kentucky the daughter of James T. and Lela (Stinson) Frost.
Dorothy graduated in 1928 from Windy High School in Monticello, Kentucky. She was a homemaker enjoying quilting, gardening, and crocheting. Dorothy was a long time member of the South Memorial Drive Church of God. For many years, Dorothy was the proud member of the Karing Keenagers and thoroughly enjoyed time in Assisted Living in her later years at Raintree Square and Glen Oaks Health Campus.
Her husband of 52 years, Marvin Masengale, preceded her in death in 1981. The couple farmed in Henry County and owned several small businesses. For 18 years the couple spent winters in Bradenton, Florida. They along with their family created and managed the Lakewood Campground, now the Cornerstone Campground.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Hayworth and Lee Miller of New Castle; grandchildren include Judy (husband: Steve) Stevens of New Castle, Jan (husband: Bill) Hurst of Pennville, Craig A. (wife: Laura) Miller of New Castle; great grandchildren include Seth (wife: Amy) Stevens of New Castle, Kyle Stevens of Los Angeles, California, John Williams of West Lafayette, Elizabeth Hurst and Dustin Tuel of Pennville; great grandchildren: Maren Stevens, Sean Stevens, Harmony and Toby Tuel; sisters-in-law include Brenda (Gene) Guffey and Peggy Frost and many nephews and nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents, as well as her brother: Killus Frost, granddaughter, Kimberly K. (Miller) Williams, and great grandson, Joshua R. Williams, as well as, sons-in-law Bill Hayworth and J. Roddy Miller.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at South Memorial Drive Church of God with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-6 Monday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
