Dorothy S. “Dot” Vaughan, 87, formerly of New Castle, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Milford, Ohio. She was born August 8, 1931 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Cooper) Smith.
Dot graduated from Michigan State College, completed her internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, IN and received her Master’s degree in dietetics from Ball State University. As registered dietician she worked at several hospitals and long-term nursing facilities in a consulting role. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle, and was a member of Altrusa, of which she served as President.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Susan (Wesley) Swearingen of Dayton, OH and Amy (Patrick) Vaughan-McKinney of Loveland, OH; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Swearingen of Yellow Springs, OH; niece and nephews, Charlie Avery, Molly Gray, and Andy Avery, amongst several others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Vaughan in 2006; a daughter, Cynthia Vaughan in 2017, and a sister, Mary Smith Avery.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. noon until time of services at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association, 115 W.
