Dorothy White

April 14, 1927 — June 14, 2009

Dorothy M. White, 82, of New Castle passed away Sunday June 14, 2009 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born April 14, 1927 in Olive Hill, KY to the late Alfred and Eva (Bays) Van Hoose.

Dorothy grew up in Olive Hill, KY, the youngest of nine children. She was raised with a strong family heritage of faith. Dorothy’s grandfather, Elijah Van Hoose was a founder of the Church of God originally located at 18th Street and Walnut in New Castle. Dorothy, a war bride, married Keith L. White June 21, 1944. Following Keith’s service during WWII, they moved to Towanda, IL where they began a family and initially farmed. Dorothy also began work as a clerk at the local post office and eventually became postmaster. In 1981 she relocated to New Castle (following the death of her husband) to be closer to her beloved brother, Bert Van Hoose. Given Dorothy’s strong family influence, her focus in life was learning about the Lord and ministering to others.

Survivors include two sons: Michael K. (wife: Karen L.) White of Richland, WA; Gregory W. (wife: Karen D.) White of Traverse, MI; very special niece: (daughter of Bert Van Hoose) Anne (husband: John) Millikan of New Castle; three granddaughters: Amanda M. White of Kennewick, WA; Leann (husband: Josh) Adams of Walla Walla, WA; Kimberly (husband: Marc) Macenko of Durham, NC; two grandsons: Steven (wife: Kathy) Nadherny of Arlington, VA; Michael Nadherny of Indian Rock Beach, FL; two great grandchildren: Matthew and Kaitlyn Macenko of Durham, NC; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Keith L. White and eight brothers and sisters.
