Dottie D. Holmes

Dottie D. Holmes, 84, of Greenwood, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 following an extended illness. She was born June 11, 1939 in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Sherman and Bonnie (Atkinson) Catron.

Always giving and loving, Dottie was good-hearted and her oldest daughter says, “She was my Mom, but also my best friend.” A wonderful Mom and Grandma, she enjoyed spending time with her family. A resident of New Castle until moving to Indianapolis in 1994, Dottie retired from IUPUI, serving as a custodian for many years. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, reading, and crossword puzzles. She attended the United Pentecostal Church in New Castle for several years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 8 children, Dorothy Holmes of Indianapolis, Kenneth Holmes of Indianapolis, Patricia Lema of Greenwood, Daniel (Cynthia) Holmes of Franklin, Sharon Smith of Greenwood, Robert Holmes of New Castle, Gary (Jennifer) Holmes of New Whiteland, and Deborah (Michael) Barnes of Greenwood; 14 grandchildren, Ashley, Misty, Stephen, Cheyenne, Tasha, Carrie, Robert, Scottie, Gary, Olivia, Ella, Brittany, Belinda, and Alan Christopher; 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna Thompson of Soldier, KY, and Loraine Dickerson of New Castle; a brother, Gene (Pam) Catron of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, William Alan Holmes and Larry Dwayne Holmes; three sisters, Lois, Georgia, and Darlene Dishman; three brothers, Wilburn Catron, Edward Catron and Ray Catron.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com .
