Earl Barber

Earl D. Barber, age 87, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009 at The Waters of New Castle. He was born January 16, 1922, in Albany, Kentucky to the late Herlon and Grace (Stockton) Barber.

He was a member of Grand Ave. Baptist Church and attended Greensboro Church of the Nazarene, Masonic Lodge #91 F & AM in New Castle, was a 32nd Mason, Scottish Rites and a Shriner-Murat Templer. A veteran of the U. S. Army, Earl served during World War II, was stationed in the Philippines, and was a member of the 623rd Ordinance. Also, Earl enjoyed volunteering as a transport driver to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Lexington and the Shriner’s Children’s Burn Hospital in Cincinnati. He retired in 1981 from Chrysler Corporation after 31 years of service. Earl was an avid car collector and loved to tinker with them.

Survivors include a son: Larry Gene (wife: Vicki) Barber of Lafayette; three granddaughters: Amanda (husband, Dan) Lowry of Indianapolis, Erica (husband, Chris) Andresen of Alexandria, VA and Jessica (husband, Eric) Meyer of Chicago; a great granddaughter, Emily Allen; two brothers: Dannie W. (wife, Ida) Barber of Cadiz and Gayle (wife, Oleta) Barber of Byrdstown, TN; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Hazel Barber in 2000; two brothers: Lester and Freelon Barber.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Charles Dugger officiating. Military Rites will be conducted the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the funeral home with a Masonic service convening at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
