Earl E. Hummel, 85, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. He was born March 11, 1930 in Kennard, Indiana to the late Homer and Marguerite (Wright) Hummel.
He worked as a foreman at Ingersol Steel Mill in New Castle and was a life long farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War in the First Armored Division, 47th Battalion. Earl was a member of the Sulphur Springs Christian Church for 36 years and attended Hope Bible Fellowship in Cowan. He was involved in the Habitat for Humanity and Lay Witness Renewal. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, gardening and nature walks.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Miriam (Steigerwalt) Hummel whom he married June 27, 1959; three sons, James M. Hummel, John A. (Beth) Hummel of Sulphur Springs and their children, Gabriel, Seth and Josiah, and Jeff (Karen) Hummel of Greenfield, IN and their children, Heather, Nathaniel and Peter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Alice Hummel; 37 aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Steve Arnett and Robert Wright officiating. Burial will be at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by a contingent of the United States Army.
