Edna Irene Conner

Edna “Irene” Conner, age 85, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Henry County Hospital. She was born March 31, 1926 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Reverend Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Rigney) Smith.

She retired from the State Hospital in 1988 after 35 years of service. She enjoyed quilting, watching movies, listening to music and playing video games.

Survivors include her children, Barbara (husband, Bob) Henderson of New Castle, James Roy (wife, Cyndi) Jackson of Alexandria, Cartha Adams of Richmond, Sylvia (husband, Kevin) Groce of High Point, NC; nine grandchildren, Charissa, Andrew, Elizabeth, Mitchell, Angela, Kevin, Christina, Misty and Melissa; sixteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Sallie Howe of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Conner; son, Thomas Alvin Jackson; daughter, Dorothy Hall; brothers, Andrew, Arthur, Cletis and Bill Smith; sisters, Ida Mae Perry, Gladys Smith and Sylvia Shelton.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend David Perry officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
