Edna Lucille Kennedy

November 2, 1926 — January 29, 2023

Edna Lucille (Massengale) Kennedy, age 96, went home to Heaven on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the home of her son, Troy. She was born November 2, 1926 in Bunkum, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Jack and Lizzie (Neal) Massengale.

Lucille married the love of her life, Randolph Kennedy on July 2, 1949 in Albany, KY. They were married almost 70 years before his passing in 2019.

Lucille was a member of Grace Baptist Church in New Castle. She worked several jobs; her favorites were working at Tri High School as a cook for seven years and working in a nursing home and private duty. She loved working with the elderly. In her 80’s, she and her friend Betty Lou would dress up in old clothes and visit the “old folks” at the nursing home by singing and acting silly.

She was a fun loving person. Many Gospel and Bluegrass gatherings were held at their home with a meal too. She made hundreds of handmade quilts and many are left to be cherished by her family. She also crocheted many, many doilies. Lucille and Randolph loved there huge garden. She always canned food for the winter. She loved to cook, sing, play games, hunt mushrooms, camping, fishing, pick black raspberries and dig ginseng root. Lucille helped to start the Massengale Reunion that lasted for 50 years and she was the only person to attend them all.

Lucille truly had the gift of hospitality. Their home was always open to friends and family and she always wanted to feed you. Most importantly, she loved the Lord her savior. She was a prayer warrior and always witnessed to those close to her. Many thanks to the Suburban Hospice team in Greenfield. They were so sweet to her and she really enjoyed each of them.

She is survived by her sons: Troy (Diana) Kennedy of Spiceland, Ronald of Greenfield; daughters, Wanda (Mark) Campbell of Knightstown, Kathy (Kennie) Hill of Greenfield; grandchildren, Christina (Kevin) Morgan, Troy Kennedy, Ryan (Edward) Kennedy Chris (Melissa) Campbell, Randy Campbell, Kevin Campbell, Drew (Whitney) Hill, Kirsten (Luke) Dennison, and Brady (Melissa) Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Austin (Savanna) Campbell, Bryce (Kenzie) Campbell, Makayla Campbell, Rosalee Campbell, Mason Campbell, Cody Campbell, Dominic Liguori, Alora Campbell, Grayson Campbell, California Hill, Preston Hill, Cierra Kennedy, Connor Kennedy, Alana Kennedy, Teegan Kennedy, Stefan (Kate) Morgan, Ethan (Emilee) Morgan; great-great grandchildren; Kennedy Campbell, Kash Campbell; a special niece Linda Treese, who spent a lot of time with Lucille these last few years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by a son, Roger Dale Kennedy, her in-laws, German and Mollie Kennedy; brothers, Oddie, Otis, Henry, Timothy, Ed, J.W. and Bruce Massengale; sisters, Pearl Bertram, Bessie Brown and Alta Hancock.
