Edward Estill Cox, age 90, of Lewisville, passed away Thursday, December 03, 2015 at The Waters of New Castle. He was born March 27, 1925 in Greenup, Kentucky to the late Robert and Ethel Cox.
A 1943 graduate of Greenup High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving mostly in the European Theater as a radio transmitter on a submarine. He attended Morehead State University in Morehead Kentucky and graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He retired from Indiana State Highway Commission in 1993 as a civil engineer. Edward was a member of Murat Shrine was an honorable Kentucky Colonel, Lewisville Masonic Lodge, a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, 32nd degree Mason, a member of Lewisville Lodge #72, a member of American Legion Post #137, and a longtime member of Lewisville Lions Club. He volunteered at Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame for over 20 years. He enjoyed playing golf and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and dearly loved the Kentucky Wildcats. Among his favorite passions were Blue River Valley basketball and golf, BSU basketball and golf, Park Tudor basketball, New Castle High School volleyball, and IU volleyball. Edward was a former member of Lewisville United Methodist Church and was presently attending First Christian Church in Cambridge City.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou (Johnson) Cox of Lewisville; son, Tony, wife, Karen (Beavers) Cox of Springport; two grandchildren, Kyle, wife, Emily (Dye) Cox of Fishers and Caitlin Cox (fiance, Will Bruin) of Houston, TX; two great granddaughters, Kayleigh and Ellie Grace, Cox both of Fishers; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Cox; sisters, Beulah Boggs, Thelma Greenslait, Maxine Miller, Edna Williams, and Florene Garthee.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Jerry Greenslait, Herb Doty and Jimmy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2015 at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW.
