Edward D. Jones

December 13, 1956 — October 3, 2024

Mooreland

Edward D. Jones, 67, of Mooreland, passed from this life to his Heavenly reward Thursday morning at his home following a brief illness. He was born December 13, 1956, in New Castle to the late William E. and Iris (Houser) Jones.

A 1975 graduate of Blue River Valley High School, Ed farmed with Whisler Farms, worked for Wimmer Vault Co., Metaldyne, and Buster’s before working at Hitachi Astemo (formerly IPT) in Greenfield, where he was presently employed. Ed continued farming whilst working at these other places.

An active member of First Baptist Church in New Castle, Ed and Sandy went on mission trips for many years, serving people in many areas of the world. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and camping at Yogi Bear Campground in Knightstown. Also at the top of Ed’s list was the Mooreland Fair, taking his vacation days for the fair each year.

Kind, caring, always ready to help, and always smiling were just some of the ways Ed’s family describes him. He was the type of person many aspired to be! His nurses and physicians truly loved caring for him and made it clear that he was “one of their favorites!”

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 38 years, Sandy J. Jones of Mooreland; son, Matt (Brandy) Pierce of New Castle; grandchildren, Caleb Pierce of New Castle and Carolina Pierce of Fishers; his brother, Jeff Jones of Anderson; sisters in law and brothers in law, Harold and Marsha Scott of New Castle and Steve and Terri Hayes of New Castle; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiliam E. and Iris Jones, and his in-laws, Kenny and Jackie Cook.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, 2024, at First Baptist Church in New Castle with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 709 S. Memorial Dr., New Castle, IN 47362.
