Edwin Jules Sloan, 76, of New Castle, passed away in his home (per his request) with his family by his side, and his wife sweetly kissing his cheeks as he entered his eternal home on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. He was born August 6, 1947 in Henry County, a son of the late Edwin and Louisa (Van Berkelaer) Sloan.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War, where he was in the 1st Infantry Big Red 1. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 2004, following over 34 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #137, loved boating and camping a Brookville Reservoir with his family and friends, siting by a good outdoor fire with enjoying a cold beer and chit chatting with family. His biggest joy was spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren. They were the joy of his life! He always wanted his best friend, his wife, Rebecca by his side and it gave him pure comfort and peace when he was with her. He will be missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 loving years, Rebecca (Heltzel) Sloan, whom he married June 4, 1966; his children, Sherry (Shawn) Brummett and Doug (Amy) Sloan; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Josh Atkinson, Candace Atkinson, Kyle Sloan, Derek Sloan, Jesse Sloan, Kenton Sloan, Khalon Waters, Allie Atkinson, and Kylor Sloan; a sister, Joanna Cory; nieces and nephews on both sides of the family; he loved them all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Sloan; two sisters, Beverly Pennycuff and Lillian Bray.
The family would like to thank the Henry Community Health Hospice team, especially nurses Tina, Beth and Nikki for the care they provided Jules “Ed”, making it possible for him to be at home and able to spend the last two weeks of his life being with family and friends. You all are truly special.
