Elaine Carnes

Joyce Elaine (Massengale) Carnes, 72, a resident of New Castle passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at her residence. She was born August 9, 1940 in Wendy, Kentucky.

A homemaker, mother and grandmother, she retired from Marsh Supermarket in New Castle after 21 years of service. Elaine attended Westview Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed shopping, gardening and playing games with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years: John L. Carnes, Sr.; her mother: Ruby Ada (Perdue) Massengale of New Castle; four children: Tamara (Randy) Carnes Dalida, John Lewis Carnes, Jr., Terry James (Hope) Carnes and Debra Ada Carnes, all of New Castle; six grandchildren: Joshua Manuel, Jessica Ann-Marie and Shania Brooke Sanchez, Hannah Elaine and Sarah Grace Dalida and Riley James Carnes; sister-in-law: Betty Wages of Florida; brother-in-law: Frank Carnes of Connersville; several nieces, nephews and cousins and very, very close friends.

She was preceded in death by her father: James Elmer “Bud” Massengale; Brothers-in law and sisters-in-law; a grandson: Jacob; several aunts and uncles.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May29, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastors Max Downs and Paul Riddle officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the funeral home.
