Elizabeth “LaRue” Emerson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on November 2, 1933, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, LaRue’s life was one of service, love, and devotion.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), LaRue married Clarence Emerson. As a proud U.S. Air Force military spouse, she embraced a life of adventure, living in many states and territories before planting roots in Knightstown, Indiana. There, they raised their three children, Clarence Jr. (“Butch”), Gary, and Marcia, in a home filled with love and cherished memories.
In 2022, LaRue and Clarence moved to Richmond Hill, Georgia, to be closer to family. A woman of many talents and passions, LaRue found joy in life’s simple pleasures: curling up with a good book, cooking, playing bingo with friends, creating beautiful crochet pieces, and crafting with care. But her greatest delight came from the connections she nurtured with loved ones, near and far. Her warmth and ability to make everyone feel special will never be forgotten.
LaRue is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Clarence; her son Gary (Eileen); her cherished grandchildren Erin, Michael, Brittany (Alan), Shelby (Austin), and Jessica; and her adored great-grandchildren Abby and Clarke. She was preceded in death by her children Clarence Jr. (“Butch”) and Marcia, sister Miriam, and brother Wayne.
Her love and light touched the lives of so many, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
A visitation to honor LaRue’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home in Knightstown, Indiana, with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown, Indiana.
