Vada Elma Rains 85, of New Castle went to be with the Lord, April 28, 2009. She was born May 7, 1923 in Wayne County, Kentucky to the late James and Nora (Harmon) Catron.

Elma was faithful to God and her family. She was a member of Grand Avenue Loyal Sisters and loved her church family very much. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years, volunteered in various organizations, and was a member of two Red Hat Groups. She enjoyed quilting and loved her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons: David (wife: Jane Abbott) Rains of TX, Roger Rains; two daughters: Doris (husband: Jim) Thompson and Linda (husband: Rick) Craig; eight grandchildren: Shannon (husband: Brad) Brown, Sonja (husband: Rick) Krathwohl, Mark (wife: Kimberly) Rains, Lori (husband: Joey) McDaniel, Steve (wife: Melia) Craig, Jeff (wife: Tiffany) Rains of TX, Nick Thompson, and Jessica Thompson; fourteen great grandchildren: Mason, Bailey and Storie Brown, Rachel and Sarah Krathwohl, Jacob and Julianna Rains, Clay and Cole McDaniel, Katie and Ryan Craig, Brandon and Brittney Rains and Alexis Thompson; brother: Oren Catron of Monticello, KY.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband: James Rains; her brother: Melvin Catron; and a sister: Delphi Rains.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Charles Dugger and Tony Piper officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
