Elmer New, Jr. age 80, of New Castle, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 at Rawlins House in Pendleton. He was born August 19, 1932 in McDowell, West Virginia to the late Elmer T. and Florence (Tucker) New.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during the Korean War. He retired from Westinghouse/ABB in Muncie in 1993 following 30 years of service and had also worked at Allisons, Chrysler, and IMI. He attended Southside Church of the Nazarene. Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, weightlifting, woodworking, reading, western movies and visiting state parks. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, May (Catron) New; daughter, Connie (Dale) Hicks of New Castle; son, Elmer R. (Marsha) New of Lewisville; grandchildren, Daniel (Nicole) New of Greenwood, Jared New, Katie New, Amanda (Stefan) Hennig of Colorado, Alexis Hicks and Jesse Hicks both of New Castle; two great grandsons, Mason and John William New, expected to arrive any day; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Louie New and Otho New; four sisters, Lora Meade, Flora Butler, Mary Gooding and Rushie Fortner.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Tony Darling officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the PMD Foundation, 1307 White Horse Rd., Suite 603, Voorhees, NJ 08043.
