Elsie C. Baker, 79, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born November 26, 1934, in Lewisville. She was the daughter of William and Edna (Dishman) Wasson.
She retired from New Castle State Developmental Center on May 31, 1996 where she had been the supervisor of housekeeping for 20 years. Elsie was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. Her retirement years were spent with her grandchildren and friends whom she loved very much. She was an avid scrapbooker and was active in Bible Study Fellowship for several years.
Survivors include three sons: Butch (Rebecca) Baker of New Castle, George (Sheli) Baker of Carmel and Alan Baker of New Castle; six grandchildren: Lindsey Baker, Brad Baker, Whitney Baker, Allison Morton, Courtney Simons and Dustin Baker; great grandchildren: Landon Baker, Hunter Morton, Braiden Jackson, Channing Jackson and William Simons; four step grandchildren: Daniel and David Jackson, Natalie and Lindsey Burrow; a sister: Virginia Ellis of New Castle; a brother: Larry (Gail) Wasson of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Baker in 1989; four sisters: Doris Woolery, Barbara Stephen, Frances Saunders and Jerilee Graham; three brothers: Bill, Bob and Harry Luther Wasson.
Services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Arnett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday.
