Emery Owens

Emery Owens, 88, of New Castle, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Addison Place in New Castle. He was born September 15, 1927 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Wesley Owens and Sally Pearl (Guffey) Denney.

Growing up, Emery attended Cumberland City Schools in Albany Kentucky before moving to New Castle in 1950. He owned and operated Owens Auto Sales for over 60 years and had also retired from Chrysler Corporation following 10 years of service. Emery was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church and at one time had been active at the Four Square Gospel Church for 20 years. Emery enjoyed spending time with his friends known as the “Loafers.” A special thanks to all the staff and friends at Addison Place, his last home.

Survivors include his children, Emery Paul (Anita) Owens of FL, Pamela Shelton of New Castle and Paul Ray Jones of New Castle; grandchildren, Jef Owens of AL, Michelle Bailey of TX, Chelsie Boyce of New Castle and Jeremy Jones of FL; six great grandchildren; brother, Bobbie Owens of New Castle; special friend, Julie; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ila Jean Owens in 1963 and his second wife, Joan Owens in 2002; son-in-law, Jimmy Shelton; brothers, Dewey Owens, Lee Denney and Jimmie Denney.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Steve Galloway officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
