Emma L. Franklin Bassett, age 100, of Indianapolis and formerly of New Castle, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Castleton Health Care in Indianapolis. She was born February 9, 1912 in Shirley, Indiana to the late Horace Scott and Doskie (Winslow) Franklin.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and the Friendly Dozen Club. She loved sewing, baking, making homemade jelly, shopping, Bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheila Penn and Sharon Maxwell-Smith both of Indianapolis; a step-daughter, Wilma Sharpe of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Louis Maxwell and her second husband, Maurice Bassett; a daughter, Deborah Charlene Maxwell; eight sisters; six brothers; a step daughter, Nola Griffin; a stepson, Howard A. Bassett.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Bethel A.M.E. Church with Reverend Allen McClendon officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
