Emma L. Massengale, age 77, walked through the Gates of Heaven, holding the hand of her beloved husband, Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born February 10, 1936 in Junction City, Kentucky, to the late John Daniel Riley and Hilda Emma (Windmiller) Benedict.
Emma was a longtime member of the Whittier Lane Baptist Church. She was a 1954 graduate of Mooreland High School. Emma had spent her working years as a Doctors assistant with the Henry County Clinic before retirement. Springtime was Emma’s favorite season of the year and especially enjoyed spring flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren especially Sunday dinners and grandchildren functions. Emma loved her bird Misty and her dog, Moe.
Survivors include her children, Amy (Gary) Davis, John (Karol) Massengale, and Tina (Alex) Pierce all of New Castle; grandchildren, Lyndsay (Warren) Boling, Megan Davis, Tyler Pierce, James, Kristopher, and Jonathan Massengale all of New Castle; siblings, Helen Litton of Hagerstown, Harold Benedict of FL, Don (Carolyn) Benedict of Hagerstown, Shirley (Hank) Gray of Mt. Summit, Rosemary (Larry) Mastin of New Castle, Pat Healton of New Castle, Gussy Lindsey of Losantville and Linda Massengale of New Castle; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Eugene Massengale; brothers, Ronnie Benedict and Albert Benedict; sister, Mildred Adkins; granddaughters, Tyra and Alyassa Shoemaker.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the funeral home.
