Ernest L. Dickerson

Ernest L. “Ernie” Dickerson, age 72, of New Castle, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at IU Health, Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on August 7, 1952 in New Castle to the late James and Maggie (Malone) Dickerson.

Ernie had a mind for business and was known as a wheeler and dealer. He dealt with a large variety of items and would always keep his eye out for the next great deal. He had a special passion for cars, classic, modern, if it had an engine, it had his interest. In his younger years, Ernie spent the majority of his free time restoring and repairing vehicles that he’d made his passion projects. Ernie retired from the Iron Workers Local #22, of which he was a lifetime member.

He is survived by his three daughters, Misty (Garrett) Rinberger, Joani Dickerson and Julie Blair, all of New Castle; his seven grandchildren, Dustin Elliott, Jackson Elliott, Addison Blair, Abram Blair, Alec Blair, Kyndel Curtis and Conner Curtis; former wife and mother of his children, Lorene Dickerson; two sisters, Kathleen Willoughby and Nadine (Raymond) Hacker, both of New Castle; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his son, James Lee Dickerson; two brothers, Cordell and Bill Dickerson and two sisters, Dorene Young and Rita Dickerson.

A public viewing for Ernie will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, in New Castle, on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. You may express condolences or share memories of Ernie at www.hinsey-brown.com.
