Ernest "Ernie" Helderbrand Jr.
April 20, 1944 — October 17, 2015
Ernest “Ernie” Helderbrand Jr., age 71, passed away Saturday evening, October 17, 2015 in his home following a brief illness. He was born April 20, 1944 in Clearfield, KY, a son of Ernest T. Helderbrand Sr. and Stella (Black) Helderbrand.
A 1962 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, Ernie served in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served in the 101st Airborne and the Vietnam War. He began working at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, where he retired in 2004 following 37 years of service. He was also a member of the UAW Local #371. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with his grandchildren, and having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Joan Helderbrand, of New Castle, whom he married on January 4, 1964; two children, Ernie Helderbrand III of New Castle, and Sherry Roginski of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kimberly, Katie, Micayla, Mitch, and Brelyn. Also, his mother, Stella Helderbrand of New Castle; a sister, Dianna (Phil) Gilliam of Polo, MO; a sister-in-law, Anita Helderbrand of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his best friends of many years, Charles and Shirley Higgins of New Castle.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Helderbrand, and a niece, April Helderbrand.
Services will be at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Arnett officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30-7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 in the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Nashville, TN.
