Ernest G. McConnell, Jr.

Ernest G. McConnell, Jr., 92, of Straughn, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at The Addison Place in New Castle. He was born December 30, 1923 at home in Lewisville, the son of Ernest Glen and Elizabeth M. (Sorrell) McConnell.
Ernie graduated from Lewisville High School in 1941 and farmed for many years. He retired from Chrysler in 1976 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Richsquare Friends Church and First Friends Meeting in New Castle. Ernie and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida for many years and he loved helping people.
He is survived by a son, Edward (Becky) McConnell of Cambridge City; two daughters, Bonnie McClain of Fishers and Mary (John) Hays of Cambridge City; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy L. (White) McConnell; two brothers, Robert R. McConnell and Richard A. (Amanda) McConnell; four sisters, Evelyn Prince, Cleora Brecheisen, Arthela Pierce and Loretta Lamb.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2016 at First Friends Church in New Castle with Rick Schoeff officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ernest G. McConnell Memorial Fund, c/o First Friends Meeting, 503 S. Main Street, New Castle, IN 47362.
