Ernest G. Scotten, age 77, of New Castle, passed away, Monday, October 19, 2009, at Henry County Hospital. He was born January 3, 1932 in Henry County to the late Ernest G. and Ann (Tuohey) Scotten, II.
Ernie retired from Smith Dairy – Wayne Division as the Controller after 26 years of service. He was owner of Kumfy-Togs Manufacturing and was a former Indiana Department of IRS employee. He loved traveling, especially cruises, model trains, gardening, yard work and spending time with friends and family. Ernie was a life member of the Elks Lodge for over 50 years, where he had also served as treasurer. Ernie was also a member the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by a daughter: Jennie E. McCord of New Castle; a son: James W. (wife: Tammy) Scotten of Richmond; stepson: Michael L. Smith of Lynn; grandchildren: Tyler L. McCord of Indianapolis and Jamie E. McCord of New Castle; Betsy L. Scotten and Sarah M. Scotten of Richmond; several cousins; and Pomeranian companion: Bandit.
In addition to his parents and stepmother: Dorothy H. Scotten, he was preceded in death by his wife: Bonnie B. Scotten.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Revered Tom Current officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday, October 21 with a memorial service provided by the Elks Lodge at 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walter and Mary Schmid Scholarship Fund and the Elks Scholarship Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
