Etta Jean Bergen, age 84, of Yorktown, formerly of Spiceland, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Waters of Yorktown. She was born July 24, 1928 in Decatur County, Indiana to the late Marc and Minnie Marie (Peeno) Smith.
She had worked at Seagrams in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where she met her husband, Robert T. Bergen whom she married June 25, 1949. She had later worked at Modernfold Industries in New Castle where she retired in 1994. She was a member of the Spiceland United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She enjoyed college basketball, especially IU and Bobby Knight.
Survivors include her daughter, Diana (husband, Darrell) Thornburg of Yorktown; a grandson, Kris Thornburg of Yorktown; a great grandson, Brandt Thornburg of Yorktown; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Bergen and four siblings.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Danny Thornburg officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at the funeral home.
