Eugene Allen "Gene" Hollars

Eugene Allen "Gene" Hollars, 58, of Spiceland, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born May 22, 1955 in New Castle the son of Ralph E. and Gladys (Lingerfelt) Hollars.

Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1976-1978. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in Memphis, TN in 2007. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and woodworking. He had a contagious laugh, infectious smile, huge heart and enjoyed helping others.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by children: Adam E. (Sara) Hollars of Spiceland, and Danielle L. Stigall of New Lisbon and Cara J. (Robby) Taylor of New Castle; two grandchildren: Jackson R. Hollars and Nova G. Hollars; a sister: Rhonda Hollars (Terry) Brown of Danville, KY; nieces and nephews: Trent M. (Grace) Davis, Timothy M. (Lacey) Davis, Thomas M. (Jennifer) Davis and Victoria E. Brown; several great nieces and nephews; step children: Teresa Chesher, Israel (Margaret) Chesher, and Eric (Christy) Chesher all of Spiceland; step grandchildren: Cody Chew of New Castle, Harley Chesher of Spiceland, Samantha Grunow of Greenfield, McKenzie Chesher and Briana Jo Chesher of Spiceland; step great grandchild: Hayden Chew of New Castle; several extended family member and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Rita June Hollars.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Gene Bennett and Mark Herbkersman. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
