Eugene Hale, 85, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012 in The Waters of New Castle. He was born May 10, 1926 in Fall Creek Township in Henry County, the son of Clyde and Lou Ella (Shott) Hale. He married Marcia Mae Scott on September 4, 1947.
He farmed most of his life and was a longtime member of Farm Bureau. A Navy veteran from World War II, he was involved in seven major invasions. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and very involved with his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marcia Hale of Middletown, their children, and grandchildren. Their children are Diana (Danny) Boyer of Hope, Suzanne Shockley of Yorktown, Joe (Julie) Hale of Hagerstown, and Jeff (Melanie) Hale of New Castle; grandchildren include Michelle (Rob) Burnett of Elizabethtown, Indiana; Ryan (Angi) Boyer of Columbus, Indiana, Jason (Sara) Shockley of Atlanta, Georgia, Karen (Brian) Gafford of Windsor, Colorado, Jamie (fiancé Devin Castor) Pruett of New Castle, Jessica Hale of Hagerstown, Misty (Cody) Walker of Sulphur Springs, Jaron (Brooke) Hale of New Castle, and Jay (Abby) Hale of Washington, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Austin Boyer, Jade, Alec, and Kyra Burnett, Kendal, Addison, and Brendan Pruett, Clara and Johnny Walker, and Jaxon and Jonah Hale; several nieces and nephews. Also his sisters-in-law, Eleanor Cole of Anderson, Margaret Boles Rose (Al) of Noblesville, Mary (Bill) Johnson of Anderson; brothers-in-law, Elvin P. (Millie) Scott of Pendleton and Wayne E. (Sylvia)Scott of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Adaline (John) Hale Fleming and Helen (Alfred) Hale Ebbert; his brother Claude (Mary) Hale; and granddaughter, Jessica Joy Hale; brothers-in-law, Jim Cole and Junior Boles.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Dr. Philip Rogers and Reverend David Whitteberry officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
