Evelyn Moore

Evelyn S. Moore, 87, of New Castle died Saturday, October 3, 2009 following an extended illness. She was born May 22, 1922 in Henry County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Herbert and Grace (Hoff) Swearingen.

A 1941 graduate of Hagerstown High School, she also graduated from New Castle Business College. She was employed at the Henry County Courthouse, serving in several different clerical capacities. Her main passion was being a homemaker and a farmers wife for over 60 years. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Chicago Corner Christian Church and Macra Ne Farima Farm Couples.

Survivors include three children: Michael D. (wife: Sandy) Moore of New Castle, Karen M. (husband: Tom) Gorman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Philip L. (wife: Jena) Moore of New Castle; grandchildren: John, Heather, and Tracy Gorman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Natalie Moore of Indianapolis and Taylor Moore of New Castle; step grandchildren: Steve Cloud of Greenfield and Gina Cloud of Nova Scotia, Canada; great grandchildren: Nolan Lortz and Carly Jo Cloud; brothers: Derrel (wife: Louetta) Swearingen of Cambridge City; and Verl (wife: Geraldine) Swearingen of Greensboro; sisters: Arlene Harcourt of York, Pennsylvania, Merna (husband: Harold) Dusenbury of Walworth, Wisconsin and Martha Mitchell of Orlando, Florida; and many nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Byron B. Moore in 2007 and a son: Ronald D. Moore in 1986.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverend Tom Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chicago Corner Christian Church or the Sheriffs Department Transport Van with envelopes available at the funeral home.
