Leta Evelyn Winchester, age 87 of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her entire family and Aseracare Hospice of Richmond who provided tender, around the clock care. She was born June 10, 1924 in Pall Mall, Tennessee to the late Joe and Bessie (Gibson) Ford.
Evelyn was a homemaker most of her life. She had owned and operated the Dunreith Café and worked at the state hospital. Evelyn was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children: Joyce Madonna Marcum, Susan Purvis, Ronald (wife, Kay) Winchester, Pebbles Michelle Johnson and Cathy Winchester; grandchildren: Lisa (husband, Rob) Copley, Cally Golden, Tracy (husband, Craig) McCulloch, Brad (wife, Aimee) Flynn, Bettina (husband, Jeremy) Beaudry, DeWayne (companion, Jessica Cupp) Purvis, Brandon Winchester, Brandy (husband, Mike) McIntosh, Heather (companion, Matt Sanders) Golden, Zach Johnson, Natosha and Mary Johnson; and 19 great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Tommie Winchester; daughters: Debby Golden and Carol Lynn Winchester; granddaughter: Paula Golden-Perry; two great granddaughters; brother, John Ford; sisters: Reba Jones, Alva Neal, and Della Conner; son-in-law: Bruce Purvis; brothers-in-law: Ralph Jones and Howard Neal; sisters-in-law: Gretle Ford and Virginia Ford.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Minister Carl Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at
