Fern Pearson

June 29, 1920 — November 28, 2008

Fern Isabel (Brown) Pearson left this life peacefully on November 28, 2008 at Morristown Manor, exchanging her cross for a crown. She was born June 29, 1920 in Arlington, Indiana, to Ollie Nicholas and Maggie Ava (Downey) Brown. She had one sister, Jean Esther, and two brothers, Wilson Eugene and Clay Downey, all of whom have passed away.

She graduated from Arlington High School and Central Business College. She worked as bookkeeper at Allison’s, Bookwalter’s, Shirley Canning Factory, Dill-Fields Implement, and as an aide for Hancock Memorial Home Health.

She was raised attending the Arlington Christian Church and later became a member of the Charlottesville Friends Church.

She met the love of her life, Claude Jessup Pearson, and they were married on January 17, 1946. A true helpmate to her husband, they lived most of their married life in Carthage. Claude passed away July 10, 1993. She was “Mom” to Cynthia Fouts, Tom (wife, Sherry) Pearson and Kevin Pearson. She was “Granny” to Jayna (husband, Toby) Russell, Andrea (husband, David) Purcell, Heather (husband, Chris) Barber, Laura (husband, Rob) Armstrong, Cienna, Keriane, and Ethan Pearson, Trent (wife, Brandy) Brewster, and Trisha (husband, Dave) Haler. She was “Weetie” to Cora Isabel Russell, Jessup Harrison Russell and Grant Edward Purcell.

Fern enjoyed spending time with her family and church family. Shopping with her best friend, Marieta (husband, Bill) Troy was at the top of her list for several years. She traveled many times with good friend Jessie Barry Wilson and danced at Raleigh on Saturday nights with her friend Bill Willey.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Charlottesville Friends Church. Friends may call from 12:00 noon to time of service at the church. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.
