Flossie May Howard

Flossie May (Mills) Howard, 97, of New Castle went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2025. She was born June 30, 1927 in Berea, Kentucky to Richard M. and Alice (Hatfield) Shelton.

Flossie was a homemaker her whole life. Always making sure everyone felt at home in her presence. She met her husband, Jim Mills, and was married on January 12, 1946 in Byrdstown, Tennessee. They had 23 beautiful years together before he sadly passed in 1969. After many years, she then married Burchett Howard in 1987. They had many wonderful years together until his passing in 2005. Flossie lived her life for the Lord and was a very active, 74-year member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in New Castle. She was the church secretary for over 40 years and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. In her earlier years, she worked in the Bakery at Marsh Supermarket. She had a great love for the simple things in life which included quilting, crocheting, baking, cake decorating and traveling.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters; Mary (Pastor Don) Silvers and Sharon (Frank) Brown; step-daughter, Donna Thurman; grandchildren, Dena (Aaron) Taylor, Sean (Tina) Silvers, Rich (Misako) Binford and Dawn (Ryan) Simpson; great grandchildren, Daisy (Jordan) Clark, Natalie Silvers, Hanna Binford, Carvin Silvers, Seth Binford and Jocelyn Byers; great great grandchildren, Addy and Cora; several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Flossie was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Jim Mills and her 2nd husband, Pastor Burchett Howard; grandson, Wade Silvers; siblings, Sally Hurst, J.T. Shelton, James Shelton and Barbara Daffron.

Services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, February 24, 2025 at Apostolic Pentecostal Church in New Castle with Pastor Don Silvers officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Flossie’s memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
