Floyd Painter

October 19, 1917 — November 11, 2009

Floyd Marshall Painter, a lifelong resident of Springport, passed away unexpectedly at his home at the age of 92. He was born October 19, 1917 at Springport, Indiana to the late John M. and Iva (Sanders) Painter.

Floyd graduated from Sulphur Springs High School. He served as 2nd Lieutenant in the 173rd Field Artillery Battalion with the United States Army during WWII, landing in Africa and serving in Italy. Floyd was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal for his service. He was an active member of the Springport Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was involved in the Henry County 4-H Association and the Macra ne Feirma Farmers Club. He was also a member of the American Legion. Floyd was a lifelong dairy farmer and a hard worker who remained extremely active until the day of his passing.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jane Painter whom he married April 3, 1948; four children: Dr. Alan E. (Sandy) Painter of Hollister, CA, Eric L. (Lynne) Painter of Glen Ellyn, IL, Susan J. (Curt) Eichhorn of Pendleton, IN and Betty A. (Curt) Stephenson of Pendleton, IN; grandchildren: Mark and Bret Painter, Emily (R.J.) Watson, Kara (Jocelyn) Painter, John Painter, Jeff (Candice) Eichhorn, Brad and Jobie Eichhorn, Blake, Chase and Spencer Stephenson; four great grandchildren: Savannah, Samuel, Logan and Lillyana Eichhorn; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Bessie Mills, Leonard Painter, Carol Lyons and Hassel Waters.

Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rick Fennell officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the funeral home.
