Floyd E. “Gene” Pitts, 82, of Carthage passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born August 8, 1930 in Raysville to the late Allie and Indie (Morrison) Pitts.
Gene retired from Container Corporation (Carthage Paper Mill) following 39 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force 475th Food Division and 49 year member of the Knightstown American Legion Post #152. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was a Hank Williams Sr. fan. Most of all Gene had a very big heart and loved his family very much.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Mary (Jones) Pitts of Carthage; four children: Sherry G. Pitts of Anderson; Pamela (John E.) Dalton of Greensboro; Clinton E. (Jeannette) Pitts of New Castle; Randall H. Pitts of Carthage; grandchildren: Amanda Johnson of Carthage; Billy (Lisa) Foddrill of LaPorte; Rachel (Kevin) Rhodes of Colorado Springs, CO; Jessica Cupp of New Castle; Dennis and Jessica Lytle of New Castle; great grandchildren: Devin and Taylor Johnson both of Raysville; Hayden and Brooklynn Foddrill both of LaPorte; Logan Rhodes of Colorado Springs, CO; Payton, Jaxson, and Colton Lytle all of New Castle; Hannah Rhodes of Knightstown;
great great granddaughter: Jazmyne Rhodes of Knightstown; Siblings: Harold (Carolyn) Pitts of Raysville; Betty Kise of Raysville; Leonard Pitts of Dunreith; Mildred (Larry) Houser of New Castle; Judy (Henry) Neal of New Castle; and Dale (Jackie) Pitts of Rushville; best friend: Allen Steward of Carthage.
In addition to his parents Gene was preceded in death by two siblings: Jewell Braden and Richard Pitts.
Services will be at 11am Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Carthage Wesleyan Church in Carthage with Rev. Charles Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post # 152 and an active duty contingent from the U.S. Air Force.
