Alvin “Floyd” Wiley, Jr., 79, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Community North Hospital. He was born September 13, 1937 in Shelby County to the late Alvin Floyd, Sr. and Katherine (Stickford) Wiley.

Floyd was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He served at Annapolis, MD and later Portsmouth, RI. He was employed at Schnadig Corp. where he was director of engineering for 30 years in both Chicago and the Rushville manufacturing plant. Floyd was also an insurance agent for Prudential Life Insurance Co. and worked with Ruth Hayworth for a period of time. He served as manager at Quality Connection in Sulphur Springs for several years. He was devoted to his wife’s ministry and served as her secretary. He served on district and conference committees for the United Methodist Church for many years. Floyd was always willing to serve in any capacity needed to help the local church. He recently became an Oblate of St. Meinrad Archabby along with his wife Carol. He was a member of Spiceland United Methodist Church, Everton Lions club, past president of Rushville Rotary Club, and Fountain City Antique Car Club. He enjoyed yard work, fishing, and antique cars.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol Ruth (Mathews) Wiley, whom he married June 17, 1956; three children, Paul David (Mellody) Wiley of Rushville; Terri Lynn (Tom) Ewigleben of Brownsburg; Christopher Jay (Debbie) Wiley of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Craig A. and Joel R. Wiley, Trevor B. and Tyler B. Ewigleben, Tiffany B. Gaidoo, Carrie R. Mathews, Kyle T. Keller; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry and John Wiley; sister, Anna Mae Grimes; several nieces and nephews; his two beloved Great Pyrenees, Micah and Vonley; and cats, Tiger Lilly and Lucy.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother Patrick Wiley.

Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13th with Pastors Carol Wiley and Robbie Judd officiating. Military rites will be conducted by a contingency from the US Navy, American Legion, and VFW. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland United Methodist Church, PO Box 409, Spiceland, IN 47385.
