Frances Courtney

Frances L. Courtney, age 96, of Mooreland, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Community Hospital in Anderson. She was born December 6, 1911 in Delaware County, Indiana to the late Roscoe and Jessie (McCallister) Campbell.

A homemaker most of her life, she was a 1930 graduate of Mooreland High School and had attended New Castle Business College. She had been employed at the Mooreland Bank and had also worked at Val Discount Store. She was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in New Castle where she had served as Chief. A member of the First Christian Church in Mooreland for many years, she was a member of the Christian Women United and of the Cable Club. She enjoyed crocheting and needle work.

Survivors include two sons: Marion E. (wife: Judy) Courtney of Pendleton and Larry A. Courtney of Anderson; eight grandchildren: Sherry Byrnes of Las Vegas, Dan (wife: Sulum) Cox of Ft. Wayne, Rebecca (husband: Tom) Brown of Anderson, Jennifer Bolton of Anderson, Candace Courtney of Las Vegas, Jill (husband: Gary) Carlson of Chelsea, Michigan, Tim (wife: Kathy) Courtney of Yorktown, and Jana (husband: Dr. Tim) McCann of Noblesville; twelve great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a sister: Neva Sears of New Castle and a nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Paul E. Courtney in 1957; a daughter: Rosemary; grandson: Mike Courtney; two great grandchildren: Ryan Courtney and Anna Turner; two daughters-in-law: Carolyn Courtney and Nancy Courtney.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Bill Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
