Francis Hale

October 27, 1921 — October 10, 2008

Francis Lee Hale, 86, of New Castle passed away Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Waters of New Castle following a brief illness. He was born October 27, 1921 in Middletown to the late Jesse and Ethel (Jones) Hale.

Francis was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the American Legion Post #137 for 62 years. He was also a member of the Sulphur Springs F & AM Masonic Lodge #348, Middletown Eastern Star #110, Knights of the York Cross of Honor Priority #8, Knightstown York Rite, life member of the York Rite College # 55, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and a volunteer with the Sulphur Springs Fire Department. Francis had retired from Ingersoll Steel following many years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Alma (Smith) Hale of New Castle; his daughter: Marcia (husband: Eric) Ashworth of Westfield; his granddaughter: Kimberley (husband: Larry) Morris of Lapel; great grandson: Raven Morris of Lapel; step-grandchildren: Robert Ashworth of Westfield; Melissa (husband:Michael) Bevins of KY; Erica Ashworth of Indianapolis; Angela Arney of Noblesville; step-great grandchildren: Ava Phelps of KY; Trevon and DeAndre Harrington of Westfield; Theque and Oria Boyd of Noblesville; three sisters: Ruby Hale of Golden, CO; Wilma Hale of Denver, CO; Thelma Hale of Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law: Arlena Smith of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Phoebe Hale and Catherine Smith; and one brother: Jesse Junior Hale.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Jack Hannum officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7:30p.m. Tuesday evening.
