Frank M. Luellen, age 85, of New Castle, passed away, Monday, January 25, 2010 at Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie, Indiana. He was born April 1, 1924 in Rogersville, Indiana to the late Howard and Ruth (McCollum) Luellen.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1990 following over 40 years of service. He was past exalted ruler of the Elk Lodge in New Castle where he also managed for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion and past board member of the Alcohol Beverage Commission. Frank loved wood working, was a journeyman carpenter and had helped build homes. He enjoyed attending Indy Car and NASCAR races and was an avid IU Basketball fan. Frank also was an avid hunter. He loved spending time with his family at their lake home and enjoyed playing poker and euchre.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (husband, Ed) Burgauer of Muncie and Marlena (husband, Griff) Roberts of Monroe, TN; four grandchildren, Amy and Ashley Burgauer, both of Muncie, Kimberly (husband, Jamie) Wade of Houston, TX and Robert (wife, Kim) Johnson of Noblesville; four great grandchildren, Abbey, Chelsea, Chloe and Lindsay Johnson; two sisters, Martha Mae Paul of Muncie and Barbara (husband, Robert) Whitehead of Parker City, IN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Thelma L. Luellen; two brothers, Myron and Wilbur Luellen; a granddaughter, Melody.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Robert Shaffer and Ed Burgauer officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by the VFW and the American Legion. Elks Memorial Service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
