Fred Ray Chriswell, 80, of Kennard, passed away Monday, August 01, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 31, 1931 in Monticello, KY, a son of the late Lee and Maggie A. (Coffey) Chriswell.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he retired from Chrysler Corp. in New Castle in 1990 after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Union Local #371. He was also a member of the Crossroads Church in New Castle. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and watching western movies. He and his wife, Ada loved to travel in their motor home, and they were members of the Good Sam Camping Club. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years, Ada M. Chriswell of Kennard; three children, Steve (wife, Susanne) Chriswell, Kathy (husband, Rob) Bundy, and Ted (wife, Lisa) Chriswell, all of New Castle; five grandchildren, Corey (wife, Amanda) Chriswell of Carmel, Lance (fiancé, Katie) Bundy of Fishers, Kirby (fiancé, Meg) Bundy of Indianapolis, Ashley (husband, Brad) Spurling of Spiceland, and Mandy (husband,Cory) Bennett of New Castle; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Maci Spurling and Braylen Bennett; two sisters, Mary Ethel (husband, John) Hanning of New Castle and Carolyn (husband, Rev. Don) Kitchell of Gilmer, TX; two brothers, Clarence (wife, Georgia) Chriswell of Wilkinson and Floyd (wife, Brenda) Chriswell of Medway, OH; his mother-in-law, Sarah Carender of New Castle; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Thrasher and Dixie Bennett, both of New Castle; a brother-in-law, Boyd Carender of Columbus, IN; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson, Zachary Bundy; two sisters, Lillie Doss and Jewell McBriant; three brothers, Jesse Arville, Bob, and Eddie Chriswell;
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Crossroads Church in New Castle with Pastors Danny Douglas and Don Kitchell officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
