Freda June Turner

December 4, 1923 — December 20, 2011

Freda June Turner went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born December 4, 1923 in New Castle, Indiana to the late William and Elizabeth (Hickman) Sweigart.

Born & raised in New Castle & Lewisville, Freda graduated from Lewisville High School in 1942 and from Indiana Business School in 1948. She worked in Admissions at Henry County Hospital and later, retired in the late 80’s from Benchmark Graphics in Richmond. She lived in Richmond for over forty years and loved her life there, socializing with good friends and attending church. She enjoyed reading, playing her Yamaha keyboard and singing to the Heavens. For many years, she was a member of the Church of the Open Door where her brother, Ron Sweigart, was pastor. Freda was “grandma” to her only grandson, Paul Trainor, Jr. and wife Shannon and “Gigi” to her three great grandsons, Matthew, Ian and Raine, all of California.

She is survived also by her daughter Harleeta Teel Trainor, and a large family of precious nieces and nephews, their wives and husbands, their children, their grandchildren and their great grandchildren. Freda loved the annual family reunion and though missing her siblings deeply, was bitter sweetly proud to announce in August, 2011 that she was the last surviving member of the Sweigart “oldies but goodies” original clan.

She was preceded in death by husband Charles Turner, Sweigart brothers Ron (Barbara), Dale (Lena), Bill (Joanne), Fred (Phyllis), Christian (Letty) and Sweigart sisters Jody (David Burk), Grace (John Bach), Agnes (Raymond Holder) and Maxine (Wilbur Cole). She was also preceded by her Toy Poodle, Cricket and her adopted grandcat, Chloe.

Freda made a world of people happy with her delightful presence and, upon her death, gave a last loving, gracious gift to the world by making the ultimate donation/gift to Indiana University Medical Anatomical & Cell Department.

At her request, no formal memorial will be held, but an informal gathering will take place after the holidays on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 125 W. Main Street (St. Rd 38) in Hagerstown (just West of Washington Street). Friends are invited to gather from 2pm to 4pm and family is invited to gather from 5pm - ?.

Freda had a heart for those suffering at Christmastime. It’s requested that instead of flowers, if you’d like, please give what you can to the charity of your choice during this season.
