Garnett Blake Hodson, 89, of rural Shirley passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Henry Community Health in New Castle. He was born August 28, 1930 in Henry County, son of the late Clyde and Ruth (Blake) Hodson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served mainly in Germany. His biggest joys were being a lifelong farmer and spending time with his family. Garnett was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and was dearly loved by his family. He was a current member of Markleville North Christian Church and former member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a 1948 graduate of Cadiz High School and had a passion for horses.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marjorie (French) Hodson of rural Shirley; children, Jeffrey (Susan) Hodson of Grand Blanc, MI, Brad (Connie) Hodson of Greensburg, Karen (Ed) Cross of Westfield, and Kent (Janice) Hodson of Hamilton, OH; grandchildren, Sarah (Jacob) Grady of Peru, David (Irma) Hodson of Napa, CA, Kathryn (Brandon) Devereux of South Lyon, MI, Jennifer (Ryan) Knight of Greensburg, Ben Hodson of Greensburg, Joseph Hodson of Columbus, Adam (Courtney) Cross of Marion, IA, Valerie (Jake) Lynch of North Aurora, IL, Brandon (Lauren) Hodson of Destin, FL, Blake (Kati) Hodson of Chattanooga, TN, Kevin & Claire Hodson, both of Knoxville, TN,and Jordan (Macy) Kelley of Ft. Payne, AL; great grandchildren, Lucas Grady, Lexi Grady, Maximus Hodson, Londyn & Easton Knight and Lizzy Kelley; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Mooreland, Anna Marie Craig of Farmland and Vonne French of Springport; brother-in-law, Charles (Judy) French of Mt. Summit and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Hodson Smith; brothers-in-law, Bob Smith, David French, Lester Craig, John Johnson and sisters-in-law Janie French and Sylvia French.
Services will be at 10:00am Monday, March 16, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor John Hackney officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2:00-5:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Markleville North Christian Church, 32 State St., Markleville, IN 46056.
