Gary Plank

Gary L. Plank, 70, of Knightstown, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at his home following an extended illness. He was born January 18, 1939 in Sabetha, Kansas the son of Alvie Estel and Hallie Lenore (Spiker) Plank.
A 1957 graduate of Knightstown High School, he had lived in the Knightstown area all his life. Gary was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army serving from 1961 -1964. He worked for Sprint Telephone Co. in Knightstown for 42 years and retired in 2000. Gary was a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 152 and Eagles Lodge in New Castle. He enjoyed being with his family, golfing, NASCAR racing and Indy 500 racing. He had not missed an Indy 500 race since 1952. He also enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Joyce Plank of Knightstown; a son: Ryan Plank of Knightstown; a daughter: Angie Plank; a sister: Hazel Posey; granddaughter: Jordyn Plank; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Danny Plank; two brothers-in-law: Carl Stoots and Gene Posey.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, December 28, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Ken Wells officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday, December 27, 2009. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospice 801 N.
