George H. Armstrong, age 90, of Spiceland, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born May 1, 1919 in Henry County, Indiana to the late Curtis and Lora Ethel (Riggs) Armstrong.
He was a 1937 graduate of Cadiz High School and was a resident of Spiceland for most of his life. He retired from Henry County REMC in 1992 after 30 years of service and had also farmed in Spiceland for many years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Spiceland and a member of Spiceland Friends Meeting. He enjoyed working with cattle and had served as a 4-H leader for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Harriett (Huff) Armstrong; two sons, Greg Armstrong of Spiceland and Jeff Armstrong (special friend, Pam Myers) all of Spiceland; a grandson, John Jeffrey Armstrong II of Spiceland (special friend, Deanna Shock); a sister, Ada Leer of Anderson; five nieces, Shari (husband, Carl) Breeding of New Castle, GailAnn (husband, Clint) Cagle of AZ, Susie (husband, Steve) Miles of SC, Patsy (husband, Wayne) Elston of Madison, IN, Jackie Shores of FL; nephew, David (wife, Trish) Wake of TX; several great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Helen Wilson of Spiceland; special friend, Rita Shock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, LeRoy, Richard and John Armstrong; four sisters, Ruby Thomas, Geneva Ray, Nell Leonard and Ella Shores; two nephews,Donnie Leonard and Doug Shores.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Spiceland Friends Meeting with David Brock officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Memorial contributions may be given to the Spiceland Friends Meeting 401 W.
