George E. Caldwell, 75, passed away at his home, Friday morning, October 4¸2024, following an extended illness. He was born October 6, 1948, in New Castle to the late William and Mary (Moody) Caldwell.
A 1966 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, George also graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He worked at Chrysler Corp. in New Castle for a short time, and then retired from Allegheny Ludlum in New Castle, after over 30 years of service.
Generous, kind, loving, caring, quiet and gentle are a few ways George’s family describes him. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in New Castle, was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading and researching many subjects. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge #484 and enjoyed family vacations to Higgins Lake in Michigan and to the beach.
He was his three grandsons’ best friend. He spent much time traveling to their sporting events, encouraging and supporting them and making sure his family was first. He also enjoyed traveling to the West, as he did as a child and continued as an adult. He was just a fun person to be around and a friend to everyone.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 50 years, whom he married May 18, 1974, Susan J. Caldwell of New Castle; his daughter, Jennifer Hastings (Spencer Davis)of New Castle and his son, Brock Caldwell (Travis Hinkle) of New Castle; three grandsons, Sam, Matt, and Cameron Hastings, all of New Castle; brother in law, Robert Wahl of Carmel, sister in law, Mary Bulgarelli of New Castle; nephews, Scott (Carolyn) Wahl of Cicero, Brian (Melanie) Wahl of Zionsville, Brad (Kate) Wahl of Riverside, IL, and Zachary Bulgarelli of Denver, CO.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at First Christian Church in New Castle with Pastor Ronn Oren officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.until time of service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service. Memorial contributions may be given to I.U.
