George Russell "Rusty" Davis

September 21, 1956 — October 11, 2022

George Russell “Rusty” Davis, 66 of New Castle completed his final job here on earth Tuesday, October 11, 2022. He fought hard, and he received the ultimate reward and is now dancing in Heaven. He left this earth surrounded by family telling stories, singing worship music, and praying. Rusty was born September 21, 1956 in Florida to the late Charles and Barbara Davis.

Rusty graduated from Blue River Valley in 1975 and went right to work. Rusty mainly worked in maintenance for over 30 years at Wilson car lot, Modernfold, Dudley’s, Praxair, and was proud to work the last 17 years at Henry County Hospital. He also could fix almost any vehicle out there, and you almost always saw other’s cars he was working on by his garage. Rusty was always on the go! As soon as he got off work, he was headed to another project or to go help someone else. He loved spending hours in his barn tinkering around on a car, boat, woodworking project and anything he could work on. Rusty also loved to buy and sell things. He loved going to auctions and flea markets and sales of all kinds. If you drove by his house, mortgage mountain, you would regularly see cars parked in his yard for sale. They almost always were gone within a few days. Rusty loved Fords and was proud of his 1965 convertible Mustang that was completely restored by him and his family. In the summer months, you could find Rusty out on his pontoon. About the only time he would slow down a little, was in the fall months when it was time to go deer hunting, which he loved doing with his family.

Rusty was a proud member of New Castle First Church of the Nazarene, where he spent many years on the board, was in charge of buildings and grounds, was an usher, maintained the church buses, went on numerous work and witness trips, and spent countless hours working on things all over the church, most recently leading the complete renovation of the children's wing. He loved working the grill at church events, and looked forward to the annual Men’s Retreat every February, and hosting the Labor Day picnic at his house.

But above all, Rusty loved his family! He was married to his blue light special, Marta “Jean”, celebrating 44 years on September 9th, 1-4-3. He was very proud of his sons, Garon “GP” and Kirk “squirrel” (Bethany). He was even prouder to be “Gramps” to Solomon and Anderson. He loved his siblings, Patty Yergin, Ed (Betsy) Davis, Jim (Mindy) Davis and Bryan (Rosie) Solomon. Growing up in a big family was a proud thing for Rusty, being very close to many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, George & Pauline Solomon; and brother-in-law, David Yergin.
